Dream Vacation -Hawaii

Hawaii has been mom's dream vacation destination. Mom, sister and I finally got together and went on a trip to Maui and Oahu at the end of December of 2008. We stayed at Maui from December 30th through January 4th and Oahu from January 4th through January 7th. In Maui we reached as far as a car can reach. The routes we took are: Haleakala National Park (all the way to the summit) and Kahului to Lahaina en route 30 ( first day), Lahaina to Iao Valley en route winding single track 30 and 340 (second day), Hana highway (third day) and Kahului to south beach (Kihei, Wailea and Makena till La Perouse Bay) (fourth day). Maui is one of Hawaii islands called "Magic Isle". Not sure about the magic part, but this island absolutely gets so much to offer from rugged coast line to lavish tropical greens, from vast and luxury golf course to majestic volcano trails, from rural Hana Highway to winding curvy and mystic mountain road. Surprises are all along the way of exploration. It will never bore you. At the end of journey, I don't feel I'm near to absorb as much as I see, needless to say what I haven't seen. This island belongs to a person with a curious mind. Your curiosity will take you to an infinite and extravagant island culture.
In Oahu, we stayed on Waikiki beach. Unlike Maui, Oahu is where locals and tourists, family beaches and surfer's beaches, all kinds of cultures, looks, food (mainly Asian) are mingled. Oahu first reminded me very much of rowdy and trendy Miami beach and Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. This impression diminished at the moment when I got on the top of Diamond Head for an overlook of the island. I was stricken by the beautiful coastline covered by numerous beach parks. During 3 days stay, I got to check out a few beaches, which accounts for only a small portion of entire the island. I didn't make it to North Shore where top surfers hang out. The weather and water temperature are absolutely unbeatable! The funnest thing we did is snorkling at Haunama bay.
We brought back a great memory of the interesting islands, 240 something pictures of mom and daughter's fun time, unfinished journey.
