It's a highly secret place! We were told not to release the rock climbing spot to outside. I went with a whole bunch of climbers. I don't climb. I went because it's in Baja, Mexico. After crossed the border at Tecate, we were on the road, dirt road, single track dirt road for about 3 hours before we got to the secret place. Apparently this place is not marked in any map or on any signs and without directions from someone who had been there before, there's no way to find such a secret place. It looks like J-tree national park. It's a huge desert with lots, lots and lots rocks. It's a paradise for rock climbers. It's interesting to hear their enthusiastic remarks on the whole rock climbing theory. It sounds this spot hasn't been known by the public and therefore there's no any previous data available in terms of the height of rocks and locations of bolts etc.
While climbers scrambled their way on the rocks, a few folks and I did explorations around this area on the following day. We drove to a lake about 40 miles away from the camp site and checked out a Mexican ranch and restaurant. On Sunday morning six of us got on the mission of meeting a couple extreme hardcore climbers who were climbing a " Wall" for 2 days. The "wall" is a steep rock of over 1700 feet high that's published on a cover of magazine in 1973. Apparently the cover page triggered Scott ( one of the two climbers) 's interest since then. Here's our mission: we need to scramble all the way to the other side of the mountains to meet this two guys and help them carry some gears back. These two climbers ( Scott and Rudy) made a few trips to deliver their gear on the Friday. They started to climb on Saturday morning and slept on the wall (how? hang yourself around a metal board and hang the board on the wall.... something like that.....). They were supposed to climb up to the top on Sunday. Here I was! It turned out a very brutal and scary scramble trip. I was scared out of my shit some points. Thanks to Verdi, he's my saver! When we finally got to the meeting point, Scott had already got up while Rudy was still working his way up. I think they are absolutely nuts. I made my way back with the same little backpack. Apparently I was not self adequate enought to be a help. Despite of the though scrambling, it was still fun witnessing the last stage of climbing of the two hardcore climbers and listening to their sensational stories. Scott had thought about climbing the "Wall' before I was born. I guess he's been working on preparing climbing the thing through the length of my life time.
Another thing worth mentioning about the trip is that I met a cool couple Heidi and Marcus and shared some cool travel stories with them. They are such a great match that made me think there's chance you can meet someone with a like mind some point of your life.
Last interesting thing is about one of the extreme climbers (Rudy)'s comment about his personal life. He seems a free-spirited hardcore adventurer that took off from his old routine life and has been living off traveling and adventure. All I heard from him though is his complaint about not being able to find a like minded women. It seems to bother him a lot. Not the wall and sleeping on the wall.
A great weekend a great Baja. However I still miss the Baja trip of 3 years ago. Different companies, different trip, same me.
