Anza Desert: big and hot

It was a super hot weekend. I chose that weekend to go to Anza Borrego expecting blooming wild flowers and summer heat. It was about 100 degree at the desert. Right after we arrived, we found out blooming season had far gone. With the dry and hot weather, flowers only last 2 weeks. We watched the " Marshall South" documentary film at the visitor center and thought it's really cool. It's about 17 year's primitive desert life of the Marshall family.
We drove cross the desert and checked out the points of interest. The desert is lying flat and still under the gazing sun. There's nearly no shade that can offer a break from the sun and heat.
We stopped at the " Slot" and " Font View Point" before we set up the tent at a primitive camp ground that night. The massive desert definitely offers a variety of scenes from canyons, mountains,grasslands to dry creeks and rivers. The slot is a long and narrow walk path along canyon and Font View points offers a nice overlook of the canyons. We camped at a primitive ground south of the desert. Again, Art cooked nice simon meal and we shared our food and wine with bugs and flies. We visited our neighbor- a serious amateur astronomer.We had a great time checking out his equipments (no kidding, super professional) and his photos. With his laser pointers, we were able to get to some mapping of the sky. Desert night sky is the coolest thing to see! When we got back to our tent, we found our visitors including a snake and a number of big bugs. Night life seems pretty busy and lively here.
On Sunday, we got up early and tried to beat the sun and get on some small hikes before sun starts baking the land. We firstly stopped by remains of " Marshall South" house of over 30 years ago. Their 17 years experimental primitive life at the desert was once a sensational story on "desert" magazine and however ended with the failure of the marriage. Again, two can overcome the difficulty of living off the land in a completely primitive manner. One can't carry on the life alone; another outlook: a human being can manage to live in a harmony with harshest nature but can't manage to live through with another closest human being. After Marshall's house, we visited Indian "Morteros", "Message on the rock" and " Palm Trees". By the time sun started its baking job, we were about to escape. Even though we didn't get to see the blooming flowers, the desert plants are absolutely stunning and interesting. We saw a variety of desert plants. Cactus is one of major desert plants.
Anza is big and hot! I hope I will go back and explore rest of it in a cooler day in the future.
