Back to Delft,NL for two weeks of audit work. I worked at Delft for two weeks at almost same time of last year. How could I forget this cute town full of canals, bridges, little alleys, elegant European architectures, bikes, and beautiful and friendly Dutch?
I arrived at Delft on Sunday afternoon, a nice and sunny afternoon, which turns out the first and only sunny day during my trip. In the same afternoon, I visited the centrum (center) of Delft. It looks all the same as last year except it’s much busier and more lively with return of students to school (there’s a big Technology University in town) and locals and tourists hanging outside in the plaza and enjoying the very rare sunny day. The churches, shops and little cafes we visited last year are all still there over the year. Nothing has changed. I could even recognize the Gelato ice cream shop at the corner and the pretty Dutch girl. I found myself a nice spot at “ De Wang Café” and got myself a glass of “ Groth” beer. Sipping my beer outside of the café and watching those gorgeous and healthy looking Dutch youngsters (they are mainly college students) riding bike through the plaza and a mix of locals and tourists strolling through or relaxing at a café doing the same as I am ( sipping a cup of coffee or a glass of beer), checking out the shops, cafes and alleys nearby and trying to recall their names and what I did in there last year, I feel I’m not a visitor anymore to Delft and I’m indeed an old friend just returning to this town. With this reconnection feeling, I sat outside of the café, soaked in the afternoon sun and enjoyed the first moment of my reunion with my friend.
